Rader Sworn in as Kosovo’s New Mission Director
In a public ceremony in Washington, DC on September 10, 2008, Patricia L. Rader was sworn-in by USAID Administrator Henrietta H. Fore as the new Mission Director for USAID/Kosovo.
“The United States places a high priority on Kosovo’s development, and we are committed to working together with Kosovo’s government and people to ensure a better future for all the communities of Kosovo,” said Fore during her remarks. “We are extremely pleased to send Patricia Rader to lead our program in Kosovo.”
Rader began her USAID career in 1980 as an International Development Intern, serving as a Project Development Officer in Africa. Over the past three decades, her responsibilities have included food security, donor coordination, policy formulation and strategic planning, and activity design and evaluation. She has held several leadership posts within the Agency, including Program Office Director in the Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade Bureau and Deputy Mission Director in Pakistan. Most recently, Rader was Mission Director in Macedonia.
USAID's assistance to Kosovo started in mid-1999 at the conclusion of the conflict that expelled Milosevic's regime from Kosovo and established an internationally administered region, administered by the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo. It has continued through Kosovo’s declaration of independence on February 17, 2008. As Mission Director for USAID/Kosovo, Rader will oversee a program totaling over $70 million dollars annually to help Kosovars build democratic institutions and market-based economic growth.
