Training Stresses Communications as Key to Stopping AI
On November 13, 2008, 15 doctors and staff from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Health and Public Health Reforms Center participated in a USAID-funded Avian Influenza (AI) communication skills training. The three-day, Train-the-Trainer program addressed AI prevention, response, behavioral change communications, interpersonal communications, and adult learning techniques, all designed to develop effective AI public health messages. Role-play and exercises complemented the instruction, positioning attendees to implement AI communications strategies and techniques in three Azerbaijani districts, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, in spring 2009.
STOP AI is a worldwide USAID program designed to build global capacity to prevent, detect, respond to, and stop highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreaks, as well as minimize the economic and nutritional losses that result from this disease. USAID is providing AI technical assistance to neighboring countries and the Central Asian Republics.
