New Schools Join ODW - 1/28/2000
After a busy month of applications, ODW now has 28 schools in 15
states. The organization has more than tripled from its pilot year
with eight schools.
The Operation Day's Work National Student Committee is pleased to
have schools from Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Dakota, Vermont,
Wisconsin, the District of Columbia, California, Illinois,
Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, New York and Texas joining
Operation Day's Work. New schools in new states are joining every week!
ODW Receives El Salvador Proposals - 1/25/2000
The ODW National Committee has received nine proposals for projects in
El Salvador. These proposals will be disseminated to all member
schools. A vote to decide which project to fund is scheduled for
the week of February 22.
Organizations submitting proposals for the consideration of students
across America include CARE, the Cooperative Housing Foundation,
Companion Community Development Alternatives, Co-partners of
Campesinas, Hope Worldwide, the Human Relief Organization, the
National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Salesian Missions,
and World Vision.
National Committee Creates Associate Membership - 1/16/2000
Schools can now apply to join ODW at any time. Many schools have
expressed an interest in joining ODW but have stated that they would
not be able to apply before the January 28 deadline. So as not to
prevent new schools from helping ODW, the committee decided to
establish an "associate membership" for schools that apply after
the deadline. The associate membership will allow schools to take
part in ODW this year, help raise money, and learn about El Salvador.
It will also help schools get a good understanding of the program
before becoming full members. Associate members, since there will be
little time for them to learn about El Salvador before the project
vote, will not be eligible to vote on this year's project.
